Comparing Different Charging Modes for Electric Vehicles

The standards define the different charging modes, each mode has different charging capabilities, and the appropriate charging mode for an EV depends on its specifications and requirements.

Mode 2 uses an AC charging cable with an input of 120V AC 1-phase and an output of 240V-480V AC, providing a power output of approximately 3kW.

Mode 3 involves an AC wallbox or charging station with an input of 208-240V AC 1-phase and an output of 240V-480V AC, providing a power output of approximately 20kW.

Mode 4 uses a DC wallbox or charging station with an input of 380-600V AC 3-phase and an output of around 1000V and 150kW, making it the fastest and most powerful charging mode.
