At Intersolar Europe, Panasonic presents a product package for the domestic energy revolution: Heterojunction high-performance modules HIT® and HIT®+, an energy management system for networked building technology and air-to-water heat pumps for heating with solar power

Panasonic Electric Works AG will present a product package for the transformation of domestic energy systems and networked building technology at Intersolar / The Smarter E from 15 to 17 May 2019 in Munich. The Home Energy Management System (HEMS) for saving energy and increasing comfort and safety in buildings will be presented for the first time in Europe. Panasonic will also present its HIT® high-performance modules, three of which (HIT®+) now have an efficiency rate of at least 20 percent. By opting for a Panasonic air-to-water heat pump - the product division will also be present at the trade-fair stand - homeowners can put together a high-quality, high-performance package for a climate-friendly heat and power supply from one of the world’s leading electronics groups. As part of the “Innovation Platform for the New Energy World”, The Smarter E, Panasonic will participate in the Intersolar trade fair and occupy stand A1.110.

New energy management system for energy saving, safety and comfort
Panasonic’s Home Energy Management System (HEMS) has long been in use in Japan. The adapted version for Europe will be unveiled for the first time at Intersolar Europe 2019. Using a single app, the Panasonic energy management system contributes to energy savings and increases comfort and security in the building.

The energy manager measures the energy flows of the photovoltaic system, the energy storage system, the heat pump, etc.

The Panasonic app analyses these energy flows and ensures energy is used efficiently. To increase the level of comfort, an Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) sensor regulates the temperature and measures humidity levels. Smoke and movement detectors, a web camera and a voicebox can also be integrated to enhance safety and security within the home.

“Our Home Energy Management System will be open to many protocols and is designed to be an app for all appliances in the home,” says Hitoshi Nomura, General Manager Life Solutions Europe. The Home Energy Management System is currently being used in test installations in Germany. It is expected to be available next spring.

Heterojunction modules HIT® and HIT®+ for greater efficiency - new product classification system

In recent months, Panasonic has not only increased the performance of three variants of the HIT® high-performance module to 20 percent or more, it has also introduced a new product classification system. The models of the heterojunction high-performance modules with an efficiency of at least 20 percent and the solar cells produced in Japan form part of the “HIT®+” product series. The HIT®+ N340 module with an output of 340 watts now has a module efficiency of 20.4 percent. The N335 modules and the completely black N335K KURO variant with an output of 335 watts each achieve 20.0 percent efficiency. The unchanged HIT® N330, N300 and N250 modules continue to offer great flexibility during the installation process thanks to their dimensions.

Panasonic continues to make use of heterojunction technology, which combines crystalline and thin-film technology. In the HIT® solar cells, a wafer-thin monocrystalline silicon wafer is coated with an ultra-thin amorphous (= thin film) silicon layer. Panasonic thereby combines the advantages of both photovoltaic technologies: crystalline cells can convert more direct sunlight into electricity than thin-film cells. Thin-film cells, on the other hand, have better low-light behaviour and generate more electricity with diffuse light. Thanks to the original heterojunction technology, Panasonic HIT® and HIT®+ modules achieve a higher degree of efficiency than conventional monocrystalline solar power modules. Due to their better temperature coefficient, HIT® solar cells also lose less power than crystalline cells as the temperature rises.

Solar-power heating combined with air-to-water heat pumps from Panasonic

In order to increase self-sufficiency with solar power, combining a photovoltaic system with a heat pump is an ideal solution. The Japanese electronics group, Panasonic, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2018, has air-to-water heat pumps for commercial and private applications in its portfolio. With models from 3 to 16 kW, Aquarea air-to-water heat pumps cover the largest output range in the industry; furthermore, there is a system suitable for every heating requirement. These highly efficient heat pumps for heating, cooling and water heating can be installed in new and old buildings.

Amorton amorphous silicon solar cells
Independence through solar energy begins on a small scale. It is for this reason that Panasonic shall unveil its Amorton amorphous silicon solar cells for the first time at Intersolar this year. Solar cells offer a simple way of supplying energy to various applications such as wristwatches, self-sufficient sensors, displays and pocket calculators. Due to the low process temperatures, a range of different substrates such as glass, plastic and stainless steel can be used in Amorton solar cells. As a result, flexible, thin and durable solar cells can be produced in complex shapes to meet customer-specific requirements.

Panasonic life solution business in Europe” lecture at ees Forum
On Thursday, 16 May 2019, from 2.15 to 2.30 p.m., Andreas Thoma, Head of Business Development Germany at Panasonic Solar, will give a presentation on “Panasonic life solution business in Europe” at the ees Forum in Hall C2, Stand C2.550. At the ees Forum, from 15 to 17 May 2019, experts will give talks on current developments in the fields of renewable energy, energy storage and electromobility.

Panasonic Electric Works AG will take part in the Intersolar trade fair from 15 to 17 May 2019 and will occupy stand A1.110.
